Drift Audio, monthly recap
Elena Voss
$800 a month since January, for one recap email. Last one that had a brief behind it went out 12 August. Since then: three calls about "brand direction," and no numbers. September's $800 cleared on 2 September. I am not giving October away to finish a conversation they will not write down.
Sent 18 September:
Elena,
I am closing the Drift recap on 30 September. Through that date you still get the September letter, if the numbers are in my hands by 25 September. You do not get another call, a direction deck, or October.
If you want a recap after September, that is a new job at $800 for the month, starting 1 October, and only with a brief in writing. I will not get on a call to talk this through. This note is the decision.
Reply if you want the September letter as planned. Otherwise I treat 30 September as the end, and I send the last file only if the numbers arrive.

I wrote "I am closing" and deleted "I think we should pause." Pause is an invitation to the call I am refusing. I kept the September letter because they already paid for it on 2 September. Taking the money and holding the file would have been the rude version. The line is October, not the month they bought.
Adapt: If they have not paid the current period, delete the promise to finish it. Do not complete unpaid work inside a goodbye.
Adapt: Name the end date and the last deliverable in the first two sentences. Put a real price on the next-job line, or delete that line if you do not want them back.
Adapt: For a client you may work with next year, cut "This note is the decision." Leave the date and what stops. Do not add a paragraph about how much you liked the work.
