Overview
A checklist kit for people who finish the work and then get the 3am ping because the client does not know what 'done' looks like. One page you send with the file. Then you are off the clock.
Who it's for
Freelancers and contractors who hand off work without a written close, then spend the next week answering 'quick questions.'
You get
- • A one-page handoff you can paste into email
- • A done-definition the client can check without you
- • A reply for the 3am ping that does not reopen the job
Done is a sentence
If 'done' lives in your head, the client will invent a new version at midnight. The handoff names the deliverable, the format, what is out of scope, and the one place to ask a question during business hours. That is the whole page.
The pass
File name. What it includes. What it does not. How to open it. Who owns the next step. When you are next available. Send it with the work, not after they write 'got it, one thing though.'
The 3am reply
"That's outside this pass. I can take it as a new piece for [price], start [day]. If you want the original file as-is, it's already in the thread." Do not debug at 3am. The ping is a new job until they pay for it.
Stop reopening
A handoff that invites 'thoughts?' is a meeting. End with the next action they own. If they do not take it, the job is closed. You are not on retainer unless the invoice says so.
How to use this
Copy the one-pager. Fill the brackets. Send it with the deliverable. Do not add a 'happy to jump on a call.' The page is the call.
