Overview

Checklists and templates for a clean async handoff when you are the night operator. Status, owners, next actions, and the line that says you are offline. Dry, practical, no filler.

Who it's for

Solo operators, contractors, and small teams who cover nights and then get pulled back in because the morning person cannot find the thread.

You get

  • A night-ops status sheet
  • A handoff template with owners and next actions
  • An offline line that does not sound like an apology

The sheet is the shift

What moved. What is blocked. Who owns the first action after 8am. Links, not stories. If it takes more than one page, you are writing a novel for people who will not read it.

Owners, not vibes

Every open item has a name. If the name is you, it waits until you are back. Do not leave 'we should look at this' on a night desk. Morning people will look at you.

The offline line

"Offline until [time]. Emergencies: [channel]. Everything else is on the sheet." That is the close. Do not add 'feel free to call.' They will.

Handoff is a file

Paste the template at the end of the shift, every time, even when the night was quiet. Quiet nights are how people assume they can skip the sheet. Then the quiet one isn't.

How to use this

Duplicate the status sheet. Fill it at the end of the shift. Send it. Then you are offline. Do not stay in the thread 'just in case.'
